Sign our petition to the Massachusetts Legislature to honor Ted Kennedy's legacy by taking steps to ensure an immediate, temporary appointment who won't run in the election to fill Massachusetts's second Senate seat. Massachusetts needs two voting members in the Senate, and our elected officials need to do what they can to keep our commonwealth represented.

Petition to the Massachusetts Legislature
Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo
Senate President Therese Murray
Governor Deval Patrick
From: The People of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Senator Ted Kennedy's lifetime of service to the people of Massachusetts for nearly five decades will leave a lasting legacy. But keeping his seat vacant for months will deny us the chance to finish his work in the Senate. Senator Kennedy understood the importance of having full representation and we must not deny our citizens the opportunity in having Massachusetts take a lead in helping completing his lifetime’s work.
With so many important issues facing our state and our nation - from healthcare reform and the public health insurance option to getting our economy back on track – now is the time to fulfill his last request and ensure we appoint a temporary senator to fill his seat and give Ted Kennedy’s beloved Bay State a full voice in the legislative chamber he has helped to define for generations.
The Massachusetts Legislature should allow for a temporary appointment to keep the people of Massachusetts represented until voters elect a new senator.
