Support Fresh and Local Food in School Meals

The availability of healthy and nutritious school breakfasts and lunches for the nation's children is more important than ever.

For 20 million children who receive free or reduced-price lunches, school meals often end up being their main source of daily food and nutrition. It's especially important for these children to receive a wholesome, well-balanced and nutritious meal.

The Campaign for Quality Services is working towards a new Child Nutrition Act that:

  • Places limits on fat, sodium and sugar contents within school meals.
  • Allows districts to buy fresh and local fruits and vegetables - which, in turn, helps our local economies and supports our community's farms.
  • Provides school food service workers with training in nutrition and food safety.
